Centennial Olympic Park Fountain of Rings Restoration

The iconic Fountain of Rings at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia undergoes a major renovation that enhances reliability, interactivity, and visual impact, preserving the fountain’s legacy as a symbol of community, celebration, and innovation.

Originally unveiled in 1996 as the centerpiece of Centennial Olympic Park during the Summer Olympics, the Fountain of Rings has since become a beloved symbol of Atlanta and a testament to the city’s Olympic legacy. Spanning 22 acres in the heart of downtown, the park has played a pivotal role in the area’s transformation, drawing billions in development, boosting the local economy, and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Today, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) proudly manages the park, preserving its iconic features for future generations.

The Fountain of Rings is an interactive, show-style water feature comprising of more than 250 Precision Jet nozzles and an advanced LED fountain lighting system. Set into the plaza surface, this choreographed display has become one of Georgia’s most photographed attractions, delighting guests with daily performances of synchronized water, light, and music.  During the day, this multi-use fountain functions as an immersive splash pad where children and families can play and cool off, while in the evening, it transforms into a dazzling show fountain, complete with color-changing lights, music, and programmed water choreography.

In 2025, the Fountain of Rings underwent its most significant renovation in nearly two decades. Tasked with revitalizing the aging infrastructure and enhancing the fountain’s performance capabilities, Fountain People joined forces with Palmer Construction Partners and Pfists to deliver a state-of-the-art upgrade.

Construction began in August 2025 and was completed by March 2026. The show fountain restoration included the installation of 256 new display nozzles, each equipped with a variable-flow DMX/RDM-compatible valve and an integrated LED ring light fixture for dramatic color-changing effects. The system now features plug-and-play connections, as well as a new water feature show panel with a touchscreen interface that allows operators to conduct up to ten choreographed musical fountain shows. Additional improvements included modernized pump and filtration systems, fog system repairs, and remote access capabilities that give staff complete control over the fountain’s operation. These enhancements have expanded the creative possibilities for live performances, holiday celebrations, and special events—ensuring that the fountain remains a dynamic and engaging experience both day and night.

Frank Poe, Executive Director of the GWCCA, shared, “The Fountain of Rings is the centerpiece of Centennial Olympic Park and one of the most photographed landmarks in Georgia. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Woodruff Foundation for their generous support and continued commitment to Centennial Olympic Park. These improvements will not only preserve an iconic symbol of Atlanta’s Olympic heritage but also enhance the visitor experience, ensuring the Fountain of Rings remains a beloved attraction for generations to come.”

Thanks to the technical expertise and dedication of Fountain People, the Fountain of Rings has been thoughtfully restored and modernized, securing its place as a vibrant gathering space, an iconic piece of Olympic history, and a world-class show fountain in the heart of Atlanta.
