In the heart of Olde Towne Portsmouth, Virginia, history has found new life through the Jubilation Fountain at the Crawford Circle roundabout near Portsmouth Pavilion. Blending timeless artistry with modern fountain engineering, this project celebrates the city's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while creating a vibrant new landmark for the community.
At the center of the fountain stands an eight-foot bronze sculpture that has been part of Portsmouth's story for nearly 40 years. Originally displayed at Willett Hall, the former performing arts venue, the sculpture depicts three dancers in motion, symbolizing energy, art, and emotion. When Willett Hall was eventually demolished, the city carefully preserved the sculpture, recognizing its significance and envisioning a new home where its legacy could continue along the city's waterfront.
Fountain People was honored to help transform that vision into reality by designing and engineering a contemporary fountain that showcases this historic centerpiece. Working alongside Centennial Contractors and installation partner Pfists Inc., our team created a water feature that enhances the sculpture while complementing its new setting within Crawford Circle.
The fountain features four bubbler jets, each illuminated by FXPRO Ring RGBW LED Fountain Lights. Water quality is maintained through a DBVA-Series Vault filtration system powered by a 1.5 HP filter pump, providing reliable performance while creating a dynamic visual experience both day and night.
Today, the Jubilation Fountain reflects the spirit of Portsmouth, honoring its history, celebrating its culture, preserving an important piece of public art, and inspiring new memories for generations to come. Just as the sculpture once welcomed guests to Willett Hall, it now greets residents and visitors alike from its new home at Crawford Circle, continuing its story for years to come.
