F.A.Q.

1. Does Fountain in a Can™ cost more or less than a regular fountain?

With the elimination of engineering and construction costs associated with the basin below a supported deck
design approach, overall design and construction costs will be reduced. Maintenance costs are also substantially
lower with a Fountain in a Can™ installation.

2. How does the water drain? Where does it go?

A Fountain in a Can™ feature can be designed to allow water to drain from the deck either through area
drains or through a Fountain in a Can™ integral drain. The water then flows to a below-grade reservoir for
treatment and re-circulation.

3. Does this water require chemical treatment?

Yes, it is treated the same as would be the case with any architectural fountain. If the feature invites people
to play and splash, then more advanced treatment procedures will be required.

4. What design is most safe? What are the liability issues?

The “dry deck” type of fountain eliminates the potential drowning hazards inherent in an exposed fountain
pool. If the deck has a slip-resistant surface, and nozzle effects are carefully selected, this design approach
offers little in the way of safety concerns.

5. What kind of surface should I design for?

You should design with a surface material that is slip-resistant. No other material characteristics are specifically
required other than the usual requirements for outdoor durability. Your creative juices are free to work with
color and patterning.

6. Can the deck fountain area be planned for multi-use?

Yes, the surface covers are made to withstand foot traffic, or they can be temporarily replaced with optional
covers. A plaza can be a fountain one day and host a festival the next.

7. Can sequenced water and lighting shows be designed using Fountain in a Can™?

Absolutely. Fountain in a Can™ was, in fact, developed with the specific intent of providing more
cost-effective, reliable, entertainment type water features utilizing fast-acting valves and state
of the art controllers.
